My Bento Breaking Point
Perhaps the most delectable sliders I have ever had the pleasure of putting in my mouth have come from the Marina Mandarin Hotel in Singapore. Now, I’ve had the “Kobe beef” version at Fix, which is melts-in-your-mouth stimulatingly delicious, and I’ve had plenty of good sliders all over California and New York. But hear me out: when you live in Japan and the standard pizza is corn and mayonnaise with a side of shrimp and everyone loves the “hamburg steak” (a hamburger usually with demi-glace sauce, rice, and maybe an egg — this is not your run of the mill Salisbury steak!) , you yearn from some real good food.
Here is a picture of the sliders I had:

I reached my bento breaking point and devoured them like they a Sarlacc on Sunday. There food here in Japan is great, but sometimes it’s nice to just dip your tentacles into a pot of honey not filled with rice, clams, sea urchin, or fermented soy bean paste.
Time for lunch here now…I think I’ll get a bento.
